The Twilight Zone
episode, "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet," aired October 11,
1963.
Mr. Wilson, a family man and
professional salesman, is taking a return flight home after a six
month stay at a sanitarium.
Mr. Wilson had a nervous breakdown on his last flight and the
doctor's have now cleared him to return home.
After settling
in with his wife on the flight, Mr. Wilson begins to see visions of
a 'man' on the airplane's wing. Several double-takes later and to
his great horror, Mr. Wilson realizes this 'man' is attempting to
dismantle the mechanics of the
airplane wing! Mr.
Wilson frantically attempts to convince his wife and the stewardess
of the impending doom, but the warnings fall on
deaf ears. In a last ditch effort to stop the creature from
destroying the plane, Mr. Wilson grabs a gun from a sleeping
police officer, opens the exit door, and shoots at the creature. The
creature falls off the wing. Mr. Wilson is immediately
arrested on arrival and put into a straightjacket. As his wife and
the passengers lament his lapse into insanity,
the camera pans to the wing where the plane's wing shows signs of
tampering. |
